Traumatic Urinary Bladder and Renal Artery Disruption with Kidney Salvage—A Case Report

Motor vehicle accidents continue to cause thousands of life threatening injuries or mortality (nearly 45,000 deaths in 2021) the United States. A sixteen year-old young man riding a motorcycle was severely injured when struck by an automobile driven individual under influence alcohol. Multiple long bone fractures, left renal artery torn off aorta, with non-function kidney, urinary bladder rupture cystourethral injury, thoracic aortic disruption, and splenic fracture were present. Emergency repair splenectomy, bypass all completed. Absorbable suture cystouretheral junction followed Foley suprapubic decompression. All fractures stabilized corrected. Normal function kidney returned, control accompanied four-month recuperation. Six twelve month follow-up showed almost normal mobility bilateral function.
